Alex Demaria

Alex Demaria's Collecting Honey specifically caught my eye, the way he uses the hive and connects with an actual village really fascinates me. I really like how he puts so much detail into one branch and then just has an outline of one, like it is fading. Also, the amount of detail and marksmanship he has on the hive and houses amazes me. This piece of art shows creativity and use of language excellently.

Question for Alex, When did u learn you possessed so much talent, and when did you start to pursue it?

Self-Portrait

While I was explaining my Portrait, I started to feel much more confident about my ability in Art. I shared my entire project, and the members of the feedback group reacted well to my drawing. They thought that it was quite good and that the story I explained from it came out very well. There was no negative feedback from the members which was very nice, which I think meant that it came out very well. Up to this point, I am completely finished with this work of Art, because at this point any changes I could make would be drastic.

Why Art is Made.

I believe people make art because they feel like it brings out themselves in the most creative way possible. Making art is like doing daily activities people do it or them because they want or need to because it is a hunger. I make art because i feel that when i do it brings out my focus a little more and lets me show my creative side.

4 hour project

My original plans for my project was to pour paint, but this later changed quickly. I soon realized that i wanted to be more elaborate, I wanted to really go all out on the final term project. There is really no story that i am trying to tell in my painting. My painting went very well, i feel that it looked very similir to some of Jackson Polocks' works of arts. I did come into one problem, the back looked so plain so i decided to spice it up. I took the plastic from underneath my work area which had paint splotches all over it, and glued it to the back. I then had the best idea ever, i quickly ripped off the plastic and the paint came of it, sticking onto the back making much more colorful. I feel that my painting was my best work of the term, it came out exactly how i wanted it. I do not think it could have been any better.

The Book Project

My story is trying to tell story of kids growing into adults. My story is going well so far, most of my pages have modelled off of my first drawings in my sketchbook. Also, the story of my people is going very well, it shows the age changes on the pages. The first challenge I faced was cutting out the right parts of an image to best illustrate me idea. The overall story of my book is turning out very well so far. The one thing that isnt going well is finding the final images for story, because i need to find a child.

Drawing people

Today in drop everything and draw, we drew our other classmmates who were acting as models. We used charcol like utensils and had to draw very generally at first, I liked it. I feel that when i am not to specific with things other than people I have the potential to be a very good artist. I was one of the models and realized that it is not as easy as it may look, it is very tough actually. I liked this particular class because the models were not expecting them to be perfect so my ability at this was not judged to be bad. Hopefully next time I will be able to be just as generic with the pictures because it feels like that is my strong suit in drawing.

Nighthawks

Nighthawks, by Edward Hopper

Nighthawks was made in 1942.

My first impression of this painting, is that it is very well thought out. The artist must have been very careful and very anal about his details. What i see in this painting is very complete. It seems he was painting an old-fashioned diner with the table around the bar and the very old coffee makers. It also says Phillies so clearly he had some motivation for making this painting. I like this painting a lot, because it really shows what specificity can do for something like this.

Edward Hopper went to the Ashcan school for art, and this changed him drastically, he started to depict not the chaos of urban living but the sense of urban isolation. He says he painted Nighthawks because he saw this diner where two streets met which was very intriguing to him, also he says he was painting the loneliness of the city.

My analysis on this painting is that it is very carefully painted and thought out. He really uses emphasis the most in this painting. He uses the contrast of color and the placement in this picture. He also uses motion as well though, the people all seem to be connected in some way or another. I especially like the emphasis put on the bartender, it seems like he is in my opinion the main man in the picture.
